Why would I need bespoke orthotics?
The Hartland Podiatry Clinic offers a comprehensive Orthopaedic and Paediatric Assessment in relation to foot, ankle and knee problems. Subsequent Treatment Plans vary depending on what conditions are identified. Orthotics (sometimes referred to as insoles) may well be prescribed as part of that plan. The Clinic provides a bespoke orthotic service for both children and adults and treats a wide range of child and adult medical conditions.
What are orthotics & what are they used for?
Orthotics are specialist medical devices which are designed and fitted to an individual’s footwear to provide one or more of the following:
- Stabilisation of a joint or joints
- Reduction of pain
- Improvement in mobility or performance
- Reduction in the risk of injury
- Off load pressure
- Improve foot function
- Achieve anatomical alignment
What happens if I need an orthotic?
Following your assessment if orthotics are required a 2D scan will be taken of your feet. Precise information will be provided to our orthotics partners who are based in The Netherlands and the orthotic will be manufactured.
Our orthotics partner is a company called Leading Foot Technology (LFT). They work with a wide range of medical professionals and are experts in the production of bespoke orthotics. Each orthotic is individual to each patient and will be designed specifically to accommodate any orthopaedic issues identified.
Once the orthotic arrives at the clinic (usually within a week) we will arrange a fitting appointment. At this appointment the orthotic will be checked in the footwear and advice will be given regarding wearing them in.
We will review you in clinic six weeks later.
